Fit Over 40: 6 Mistakes you may be making

It’s no secret that getting older poses new issues in life. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up on feeling your best. In fact, taking care of your health is more important now than ever. Read on to see what mistakes you may be making and get ready to take action now!

1. Thinking you can't

So many people believe once they hit a certain age, fitness is out the window. Believing you have no control over your health and fitness level is mistake number one. Time to change that mindset!

2. Not eating enough (or eating too much)

Some do best with intermittent fasting and a couple of larger meals a day. Others do best eating breakfast within half an hour of waking up and having tiny meals every 2-3 hours. Play with both and see what works for you. Bottom line, make sure you're keeping your body fueled and not eating to the point of feeling stuffed and miserable.

3. Not eating the right stuff

Just because it appears healthy, doesn’t mean it is. Is it heavily processed? Does it work well with your body type and genetic makeup? Maybe your friend does great on a protein heavy diet but you gain weight if you eat too much animal protein. Grains are great for you but your partner just can't do them. One size does not fit all. Make sure you know what your body needs.
4. Not listening to your body

That brings us to number 4. Too many people don’t pay attention to how they react to certain foods. Try keeping a journal. Take note of the foods that give you energy or help you sleep better at night. What foods drain you or make you achy? Learn to listen. Your body knows what it needs.

5. Not drinking enough water

Did you know you should drink half your body weight in oz every day? Try flavoring with fruit if you don’t like plain water. And while you're at it, cut out the sugary drinks. Especially sodas. Those things are all kinds of bad for you!

6. Not taking supplements

Let’s face it, the older we get the more help we need. Our bodies accumulate miles as we age. Make sure you’re giving your body the help it needs to stay healthy and keep going strong.
