5 Ways to Manage Fibromyalgia Naturally

Fibromyalgia can be a frustrating diagnosis to get. But it doesn't have to be a life sentence. Far from it! Read on to learn a few ways you can manage naturally and start living life today!

#1 Nutrition

Just because it appears healthy, doesn’t mean it is or that your body will respond well. Is it heavily processed? Does it work well with your body type and genetic makeup? We are all made differently and our bodies need (and don't need) different things. As a rule of thumb, stay away from anything with added sugar or pre-made. Learn to look at the ingredients. If you can't pronounce it, chances are it's not good for you. And learn to pay attention to how your body reacts to what you give it. One size does not fit all. Make sure you know what your body needs.
#2 Exercise

Move that body! But remember, just like nutrition, exercise is not a one size fits all kind of thing. We are all starting at different places with our health and coming from different backgrounds. For some walking is enough. Others may want and need more cardio, weights, or yoga. The important thing is to keep moving. Pay attention to how your body responds. And don't overdo it. Learn where that line is between not enough and too much. If you don't move, your body will hurt and slowly begin to deteriorate. If you overdo it, your body will force you to rest. Find that line.
#3 Mindset

We have so much more control over our health than we realize. It's easy to become discouraged, frustrated, and overwhelmed with a diagnosis like fibromyalgia. Doctors may not understand it, know how to treat it, or even believe in it. But here's the thing, we're actually in control. Don't give into negative thinking. Find areas you can control (nutrition, exercise, positive thinking, removing toxins and chemicals where you can) and then control them. Focus on what you can change, not what you can't. I promise you, you will soon realize you know your body best and know best how to treat it.

#4 Watch for hidden toxins and chemicals

Do you know what chemicals and toxins are hiding in your day to day products? I'm constantly amazed at what companies are allowed to put in their products. I'm willing to bet most people have no idea what they are bringing into their homes. Everything we use, cleaning supplies, laundry detergents, hair products, make-up has the ability to mess with our health. Make sure the products you're bringing into your home don't have the ability to affect your health negatively.
#5 Listen to your body

Remember when I said our bodies are all different and we require different things in order to be our healthiest? It really is imperative that you learn to read and listen to what your body is trying to tell you.  Try keeping a journal. Take note of the foods that give you energy or help you sleep better at night. What foods drain you or make you achy? How do exercises affect you? Do you feel better with one form and worse with another? Learn to listen. Your body knows what it needs.
